And now, with her recent guest-starring appearance in Smallville, as DC Comics villain, “Roulette”, she has proved she can add action to her dramatic credentials.
Steph’s recent films and TV projects have gathered a staggering total of 15 wins and 50 nominations in Canadian industry award shows-
which only emphasizes her ability to recognize quality projects, and those projects’ ability to recognize what she brings to set.
She learned Cambodian from scratch for her role in CBC’s “DragonBoys” (7 wins, 18 nominations), just so she could improv naturally when needed.
She starred in Douglas Coupland’s first entry into the film world- the feature “Everything’s Gone Green” (4 wins, 7 nominations). He was so impressed by her “Monroe-like face” and presence on screen, he pushed her for his next project, the cult TV series “j-Pod” (4 wins, 12 nominations).
And by injecting her love of indie-films into the HBO feature “Dim Sum Funeral”, she helped that flick become officially selected in 7 international festivals, including Pusan and AFI.
She’s not scared of studio genre films either- “The Thaw” with Val Kilmer, and “War” with Jet Li and Jason Statham, being recent projects. “Paradox”, where she stars alongside Kevin Sorbo, and set for release in 2010, is her first foray into sci-fi.
This work ethic had her named as one of the "Top ten people to watch out for" by Playback Magazine- Canada’s leading film and entertainment rag. And Chatelaine Magazine, Canada’s best selling monthly, labeled Steph "The new face of Canadian film" in their cover story.
Even though she’s happy exhausting herself in her work, she’s not without her charms. Proof? She was named “Sexiest Woman in the World” by Asian FHM readers in 2006.
